Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Uncovers Sophisticated Premium Credit Card Phone Scam

In a sweeping joint operation, the Panchkula police and Haryana cyber cell have dismantled three fraudulent call centres operating out of Panchkula’s IT Park, arresting 85 individuals including owners and staff. These centres were allegedly orchestrating sophisticated scams targeting victims across India, the United States, and Europe.

The scam strategy involved English-speaking agents posing as legitimate customer service representatives, luring victims with fabricated schemes such as the bizarre “Obama Welfare Initiative”—a fake program falsely linked to India’s BPL scheme. Once trust was gained, victims were manipulated into sharing sensitive personal and banking information, which was then monetized and funneled into criminal networks.

Investigators uncovered that victims were coerced into purchasing online coupons, later converted into Bitcoin and routed abroad via hawala channels. Authorities have registered three FIRs and identified ten key operatives with suspected ties to broader cybercrime syndicates.

Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur emphasized the state’s commitment to dismantling such operations, promising continued targeted campaigns against cyber fraud. This case underscores the urgent need for vigilance in digital interactions and stronger cross-border cooperation in cybercrime enforcement.
