1️⃣Senior MMRDA Official Loses ₹1.69 Crore in Share Trading Cyber Scam
A senior MMRDA official was duped of ₹1.69 crore in a sophisticated online trading scam. The fraud began via a Facebook ad posing as a global bank, leading to communication through WhatsApp with scammers promoting fake trading schemes through a platform called HSSSPMA.
• The victim saw fake profits of ₹9.91 crore.
• Was asked to pay a ₹1.45 crore "Economic Service Fee" for withdrawal.
• Withdrawal attempts failed; no funds were credited.
• A complaint has been lodged with the Maharashtra Cyber Police.
Key message: Always verify online investment platforms and avoid responding to unverified financial offers on social media.
2️⃣ Karnataka Launches Cyber Command to Tackle Rising Cybercrimes
The Karnataka government has established a Cyber Command led by a DGP, aiming to enhance cybercrime investigation, cybersecurity, and misinformation control under one unit.
🔹 Bengaluru alone contributes to 20% of India’s metro cybercrimes.
🔹 The state reported 52,000+ cybercrimes in 4 years, highest in South India.
🔹 The command will oversee 45 cybercrime police stations for better coordination.
🔹 The DGP will also serve as Chief Information Security Officer, marking a major shift in governance.
This initiative will boost Karnataka’s digital defense and ensure faster, more efficient responses to cyber threats.
3️⃣CERT-In Issues Alert for WhatsApp Desktop Users—Update Immediately
CERT-In has flagged a critical security vulnerability (CVE-2025-30401) in WhatsApp Desktop that could let attackers run malicious code or spoof content via harmful attachments.
🔹 The flaw is due to a misconfiguration in MIME type and file extension handling.
🔹 Exploiting it could lead to data theft or unauthorized access.
🔹 Meta has released a fix—users must update to version 2.2450.6 or later.

4️⃣ Widow Duped of ₹1.3 Lakh in Emotional Online Scam
A 39-year-old widow in Dwarka, Delhi lost ₹1.3 lakh after a scammer posed as her late husband’s friend on social media, claiming to be an Indian Army officer in distress.
🔹 The fraudster fabricated a story about his mother’s illness.
🔹 Multiple payments were made before the victim realized the scam.
🔹 The case is under investigation after being reported to the cybercrime portal.
