Andhra Police Arrest 33 in Major Cyber Scam Targeting U.S. Citizens Through Fake Amazon Calls

May 23 / Nayanika

The Anakapalli District Police have dismantled a sophisticated cyber fraud syndicate operating from Achyutapuram, Andhra Pradesh, targeting U.S. citizens through VoIP-based scams. This full-fledged call center posed as Amazon customer support, manipulating victims into sharing sensitive financial details.

The scam followed a four-layer structure:

🔹 Dialers initiated spoofed calls pretending to be Amazon representatives.

🔹 Impersonators posed as U.S. bank officials, extracting financial information.

🔹 Closures convinced victims to purchase gift cards, which were later redeemed.

🔹 Managers laundered the money via cryptocurrency and dark web networks, making it untraceable.

Authorities estimate the syndicate generated crores of rupees in fraud each month, affecting multiple victims daily. Gift cards were the primary tool for financial exploitation, with codes immediately redeemed and routed through international laundering networks.

During simultaneous raids at three locations, 33 individuals were arrested, including Punit Goswami from Maharashtra and Avihant Daga from Rajasthan, suspected of coordinating operations. Several recruits were found undergoing training in impersonation techniques and scripted scam calls.

Police seized Rs 3 lakh in cash, computers, networking equipment, vehicles, and operational assets, confirming that the sites had been converted into training hubs.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), IT Act, and IPC, including charges of identity theft, cheating, organized crime, and impersonation.

The Anakapalli District Police, in collaboration with cyber forensic experts, are now tracing the full financial and digital trail to bring all involved to justice
