In a significant development highlighting the evolving landscape of cyber threats, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended 18-year-old Jasim Shahnawaz Ansari from Nadiad for his alleged involvement in over 50 cyberattacks targeting Indian government websites. These attacks reportedly intensified following the launch of India's 'Operation Sindoor', a military response to the Pahalgam terror incident.
Ansari, along with a group of juveniles, allegedly orchestrated Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on various government portals, including those related to defense, finance, aviation, urban development, and state departments, between April and May 2025. The group operated through a Telegram channel named "AnonSec", where they coordinated attacks and shared anti-national messages post-execution.
Investigations revealed that Ansari was self-taught in Python programming, acquiring skills through online platforms like YouTube and utilizing tools from GitHub. He employed mobile applications such as Termux and Pydroid to execute the cyberattacks, verifying their success via platforms like checkhost.net. The group frequently changed its name and disseminated content promoting anti-India sentiments.
This case is a stark reminder of how accessible digital tools, when misused, can pose serious threats to national security.
