Cyber Kavach: Indian Railways Plans Rs 600 Crore War Room to Combat Cyber Threats

May 17 / Nayanika
India is taking a significant step toward fortifying its railway network against cyber threats with the establishment of a Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi. With an investment of Rs 600 crore, this initiative marks the first centralized digital defense system for one of the world's largest rail networks.

The CSOC will serve as a nerve center for threat assessment, risk mitigation, and incident response, ensuring the security of critical railway systems, including passenger reservation platforms, freight operations, and communication networks. Given the increasing digitization of railway operations, cyber security has become a top priority for Indian Railways.

Leading tech firms such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bharti Airtel, and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) have emerged as key players in the technical qualification round of the tender process. The financial bids are expected to be finalized soon, paving the way for the rapid implementation of this much-needed infrastructure.

With the rise of cyber threats targeting transportation systems worldwide, India's proactive approach to securing its railway network is a crucial move. Once operational, the CSOC will significantly enhance the country's ability to detect, contain, and neutralize cyber threats in real time, ensuring the safety and efficiency of railway operations.

As Indian Railways continues to modernize, the Cyber Kavach project will play a pivotal role in safeguarding its digital backbone and ensuring seamless service for millions of passengers and businesses across the country.
