Karnataka Unveils Cyber Command Led by DGP to Strengthen Cybersecurity and Combat Online Crimes

Apr 10 / Nayanika
In a major step toward cybersecurity, the Karnataka government has launched a new Cyber Command, headed by a Director General of Police (DGP). This initiative aims to streamline cybercrime investigations, enhance cybersecurity, and tackle misinformation and disinformation under a single unit.

With Bengaluru accounting for 20% of all cybercrimes in India’s megacities, the state has recorded over 52,000 cybercrimes in the last four years, the highest among all southern states. The Cyber Command will oversee 45 cybercrime police stations, ensuring better coordination and response to cyber threats.

Additionally, the DGP (Cyber Command) will serve as Karnataka’s Chief Information Security Officer, marking a paradigm shift in the state’s approach to cyber issues. The unit will also work closely with multi-agency committees to prevent cybercrimes and misinformation.

This move is expected to strengthen Karnataka’s digital security infrastructure, making cybercrime prevention more efficient and proactive.
